Gun violence costs our economy an estimated $557 billion annually, on top of the incalculable cost of lives lost and quality of life harmed.
Our communities are stronger when we address the root causes of violence. By approaching violence as an epidemic, we can find the cure.
Community Violence Intervention (CVI) is a set of evidence-informed strategies that engage those most impacted by violence and focus on a localized and public health approach to violence prevention.
A critical component of first responder ecosystems, CVI programs have contributed to record drops in gun violence in many cities. By elevating community-focused prevention and intervention, we can build the critical infrastructure to reduce community violence and advance safety.
A program evaluation found violence interrupter strategies have resulted in 16% to 23% reductions in homicides and nonfatal shootings.
One analysis found that for every dollar invested in CVI, society saw benefits of $3.50 to $17.70 by reducing costs associated with crime and violence.

We promote a public health approach to addressing violence by elevating community violence intervention programs, partnering with leading CVI organizations, and advocating for increased investment for community-based safety strategies.

We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe and healthy.
